The Legend of the Drummer Boy.
According to Legend,
There is a secret underground passageway
from Richmond Castle to Easby Abbey.
The legend maintains
that many years ago, some soldiers
discovered a small narrow opening to
a tunnel under the Keep of the Castle.
a small Regimental drummer boys was
lowered through the narrow opening
into tunnel below. He was told to follow
the passage beating his drum as he went.
The sound of the drum was heard clearly
as he proceeded along the tunnel.
Following the sound of the drumming
It led the soldiers away from the Castle,
in the direction of Frenchgate, along
the River Swale towards Easby.
at Easby Wood the drumming ceased.
The drummer boy was never seen again.
The mystery has never been solved.
